Mourning Paul the Octopus

remember paul with wish lanternsIt has been a sad week here in the office, as the team who so efficient pack and send out your wish lanterns to you are in mourning. Paul the psychic octopus, a celebrity of our time, passed away just last week. He first became the centre of public attention during South Africa 2010, when he demonstrated a remarkable ability to predict which team would win any given world cup game. Our eight-legged friend was given two boxes inside his tank, each adorned with a flag of one of the teams playing, and Paul would swim into the box of the team that would claim victory. As far as we know, he never put a tentacle wrong. This brave little creature gave nothing away about his impending doom, his spokeswoman said, and kept the foresight to himself. In memory of his great work, video clips and images from his life are to be collected and crafted into a shrine.
If you want to give your own send off to Paul- maybe he helped win you loads of dosh on a particular footy game- there is no better way to do so than by releasing wish lanterns, where they’ll float up to him as he smiles down on us from fishy heaven. He’ll know they’re coming, and we don’t want to let him down.
