Traditionally used in Asia for celebrations and festivals, many people release Wish Lanterns to symbolise the release of your worries and problems.
Wish Lanterns are 99% biodegradable, non-flammable and safe and easy to use, and create an amazing visual effect that adds enjoyment and wonder to any special occasion.
All you have to do is light the fuel cell and gaze as the Wish Lantern floats up into the night sky. Using the power of fire, the Wish Lantern will be in the air for about 12 minutes and go up over a mile in the air.
Wish Lanterns stand 108cm tall and 66cm wide at its widest point. After release and flight, the Wish Lantern will self-extinguish and float gently to the ground. From March 2010 all our Wish Lanterns will be the new eco models with no wire in them.
Please enjoy our website where you can purchase white wish lanterns, coloured wish lanterns, santa wish lanterns, wedding wish lanterns and even floating wish lanterns. If you have any questions please call 0845 500 1215 or email contact@wishlantern.co.uk.

Warm up this winter with some wish lanterns! Winter can often be a bleak and grey time of the year, where most of us would rather hide under the doona until Spring emerges once again. The thought of getting out of bed and sloshing around in the dirty melted snow and rain on the way to the tube is not exactly an inpiring way to start the day.
Never fear, there are lots of ways to beat the winter blues, you never know, you may just find winter could be your favourite of all the seasons in years to come. The best way to beat the winter blues is to have something to look forward to. This could be something as simple as buying a new winter coat or having a winter party at your place. One of the best ways is to do something radical such as booking a holiday to the sun during winter.
Booking a trip to the South of Spain or even the North of Africa where the sun will still be shining can do wonders in making the winter time melt away. Namely because you know you are going to the sun, but also because it gives you something to look forward to.
If you decide to throw a winter party, grab some blue and white wish lanterns to launch at the end of the evening, you can write a wish for the weather to become warmer, hopefully the lantern will deliver your wish to the higher power and it might jsut come true!

For some reason Australians love a great party, so it’s no wonder they all love Australia Day! Australia Day is a national holiday down under held each year on January 26 to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.
So being British it’s a day we have reason to celebrate as well! Aussies usually have a BBQ lunch with their friends and family as it’s in their summer time, however, with the bleak winter weather spreading it’s love over our nation in January, chances are BBQs are off the table here in the United Kingdom.
Just because you can’t have a BBQ doesn’t mean you can’t help celebrate Australia Day. Throw a party and show your Australian spirit by decorating your party with Australian flags, wearing an Australian flag badge, t-shirt, hat or apron or you could even have a morning tea with lamingtons and Vegemite on toast. You could even purchase some blue, red and white sky lanterns and launch them at your party to impress your guests. Make sure you invite some of your Aussie friends to help them feel at home, that is if you can drag them away from the local Walkabout!

Dust off your New Year’s Eve glad rags and get ready to party all over again, no it’s not another New Year’s party, it’s the January party! January is usually the time when people unwind, relax and try to loose the party pounds they’ve gained over the silly season, but here at Wish Lantern we see January as the time of year to party even harder to welcome 2010.
The Wish Lantern team will be celebrating January with a spectacular Wish Lantern launch at their Wimbledon premises so if you are in the area be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the flying lanterns.
The lanterns will each have a wish written on them from each one of our staff, we hope the wishes are carried off into the night sky with each lantern we release. If you would like to have a January party in a similar fashion to us, why not use the wish on the lantern idea to reinforce your hopes and dreams for the year ahead?
You can have a small gathering in the garden of your place and each release a lantern whilst at the same time wishing for what you want most out of 2010, it’s a great way to get together and share a special moment, and believe me, once those flying lanterns set off into the sky you will be surprised how magical the moment becomes for everyone.

In China, the Chinese Lantern is more than just a decoration or party item. Since 250 B.C. lanterns have silently spoken of births, deaths and approaching danger. For example, special red lanterns are used for weddings and white lanterns for funerals. And these days Chinese Lanterns are used commonly at ceremonies and festivals.
The basic Chinese lantern has remained unchanged in design, the frame that surrounds the candle is assembled from pliable bamboo and thin or oiled paper covers the frame to create the flattering, soft glow.
In Asian culture, the placement and colour of the lanterns serve as a vital communication link. Red connotes vitality and energy at its maximal state so the Chinse would place a red lantern outside a doorway, or launch one off into the sky to tell of a birth or marriage.
A blue lantern represents declining energy or sickness so if there’s a blue lantern on their doorstep or released into the sky it indicates there is illness in the household. White signifies energy eliminated or death so a white sash draped across the top of the doorway, flanked by two white lanterns announces that the family is in mourning.
To mark the end of the Chinese New Year, the Lantern festival is celebrated. Like all Chinese Festivals the Lantern festival follows and agricultural cycle – farmers begin preparing for spring planting, so the festival marks the return of light and spring. During this festival hundreds of Chinese Lanterns are released into the skies above – it certainly is a visual feast!

There’s been a bit of press lately about the safety of sky lanterns both for the environment and us as users, and not just in the United Kingdom, some of these articles have come from as far away as Australia. A Western Australian paper reported that Sky Lanterns had been banned in the state for creating a potential bush fire danger and numerous British news sources have claimed used sky lanterns are falling into paddocks and life threatening concerns for livestock.
Here at WishLantern.co.uk we would like to clear the air and let everyone know our sky lanterns are biodegradable and if the launching instructions are followed correctly the lanterns will pose no bush fire threat or livestock damage.
It is vital once you receive your lantern that you go over the safety and launching instructions prior to launching them. Once you understand how to launch them safely you can then let others know how to do it in a safe manner.
Our sky lanterns are made with biodegradable materials including rice paper and bamboo so you can be certain once you’re finished with your lantern it will decompose and won’t pose a threat to any livestock that are near it’s landing path. The lanterns also contain a small amount of thin wire which also rusts then rots away once it gets wet, however this can take a little longer than the rice paper and bamboo. Â
WishLantern.co.uk is dedicated to ensuring no envirnomental harm comes from the use of our sky lanterns.

This year Wishlantern.co.uk has seen a massive increase in sales of our Chinese Lanterns (also known as Wish Lanterns) and Santa Lanterns for use in Christmas street celebrations across the United Kingdom. People are buying the lanterns by the bucketload with the intent of using them in the festive street parades, street parties and neighbourhood celebrations for the festive season including staff Christmas parties, Christmas Day and New Years Eve.
One of our clients purchased a pack of twenty five Chinese Lanterns to take to the fabulous Hogmanay Festival in Edinborough up in Scotland, she said she saw some there last year and they looked so glorious up in the cold night sky with the fireworks from the castle going off in the background. She’s going to give them to friends to use as well so they can hopefully get all twenty five lanterns up in the air at the same time to create a truly gorgeous effect for New Years Eve.
Another client has purchased fifty Santa Lanterns for their neighbourhood Christmas street party which is on in a couple of days. Apparently the entire street gets together and sings carols and eats Christmas themed food in the middle of their street in the cool afternoon air. Every house is decorated with Christmas lights and Christmas statues so the kids have an absolute ball playing outside and looking at all the lights.
The Santa Lanterns will be a real novelty for the kids as well, you can get them to write their Christmas wish list onto the Santa Lanterns and tell them when it’s released it will float to the North Pole and deliver the list to Santa himself. They will love it!
If you would like some Chinese Lanterns or Santa Lanterns, please call us on 0845 500 1215 or email us on contact@wishlantern.co.uk
Are you going to or having a bar mitzvah in the near future? If so, why not celebrate in a unique and fun way with sky lanterns? If you are the one organising the event, you can order some sky lanterns for use at the reception. If you are attending the ceremony and reception as a guest, you can take along the sky lanterns as a gift for the young man and encourage the other guests to launch them at the end of the reception to celebrate the young man’s ceremony.
Gifts are ordinarily given at the reception, not at the service itself and the nature of the gift varies significantly depending on the community. If you didn’t want to use sky lanterns there are many other options. Back in the day, the most common gifts were expensive pen sets or a college savings bond, however today, the gifts are the same sort that you would give any child for his 13th birthday.
You don’t have to get a religious gift, and if you are unfamiliar with this topic it’s probably best to avoid this but Jewish-themed gifts are not a bad idea. For example, you might want to give a book that is a biography of a Jewish person that the celebrant might admire.
If you would like to purchase sky lanterns for an upcoming bar mitzvah you can click here to be directed to our online purchasing page, alternatively you can place your order over the phone with us on 0845 500 1215 or email contact@wishlantern.co.uk
The Guiness world record for simultaneous Wish Lantern launch has been broken. The new world record of more than 10,000 wish lanterns being set off in one location by a charity organisation in Indonesia – we think it looks great.
