Sky Lanterns and the Environment

There’s been a bit of press lately about the safety of sky lanterns both for the environment and us as users, and not just in the United Kingdom, some of these articles have come from as far away as Australia. A Western Australian paper reported that Sky Lanterns had been banned in the state for creating a potential bush fire danger and numerous British news sources have claimed used sky lanterns are falling into paddocks and life threatening concerns for livestock.

Here at WishLantern.co.uk we would like to clear the air and let everyone know our sky lanterns are biodegradable and if the launching instructions are followed correctly the lanterns will pose no bush fire threat or livestock damage.

It is vital once you receive your lantern that you go over the safety and launching instructions prior to launching them. Once you understand how to launch them safely you can then let others know how to do it in a safe manner.

Our sky lanterns are made with biodegradable materials including rice paper and bamboo so you can be certain once you’re finished with your lantern it will decompose and won’t pose a threat to any livestock that are near it’s landing path. The lanterns also contain a small amount of thin wire which also rusts then rots away once it gets wet, however this can take a little longer than the rice paper and bamboo.

WishLantern.co.uk is dedicated to ensuring no envirnomental harm comes from the use of our sky lanterns.
