Lanterns were used widely on December 1 by many people who wanted to show their support to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS. In Downtown Memphis, Tennessee, just as the sun was going down, a procession of red lanterns started floating in the air. People were gathered in the Tom Lee Park and have decided that releasing these special paper creations is a great way to commemorate the World AIDS Day. They used the symbolism lanterns carry to show that people affected with the virus can still fight with it and lead a normal life and they also wanted to show that they have not forgotten about those, who lost their lives in this hard battle. Sending wishes in the sky, wishing well to all those affected and their families is truly a great way of showing support. Many people who are affected by the virus but afraid to admit that, were there too. They also released some of the red paper creations and by this they admitted for the first time to the public they are too fighting with this terrible disease. There were processions concerning the HIV and AIDS affected all over the globe. In some places there were educational lectures held along with the beautiful Sky Lanterns.

In light of November 21st we encourage you to release some Flying Lanterns for the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph and Etienne, for their first flight in a hot air balloon. After its invention the balloon was initially only tried out with various livestock, however, it wasn’t until 1783 that the first untethered flight was a success. The balloon made by the two brothers made liftoff from the centre of Paris and few for approximately 20 minutes operated by Pilatre.

This is a major event in our history and it should certainly be commemorated. This will give you and your family to organize a get together and both learn about the history of the hot air balloons as well as catch up. To make things interesting have everyone read up on the different facts regarding hot air balloons and when everyone gets together share what you have learned. This will be especially amusing if you have children in the family, as they can also have the day specially organized around hot air balloons. Organize crafts, games, and other fun activities for them that will help them not only learn about these amazing contraptions but really have a blast as well.

Lastly, at the end of the evening have something extra special planned. To show the kids how hot air balloons operate, light a couple of Flying Lanterns and watch them fly off.
