Flying Lanterns finally lit the skies over Burgas, Bulgaria after several unsuccessful
tries to get the event going. It was initially organized for the 6th of August, a national holiday, but the winds were not cooperating. As there was strong wind blowing towards the city a beach full of people headed home disappointed. However, they weren’t ready to give up. Several people that had brought their own lanterns managed to release them, and even though most of them made it over the forested park besides the beach, one did land in a tree showing everyone how important it is to make sure that you release your lanterns safely. The event was put off two more times until the winds weren’t as strong.
Local photographer, Petia Emilova, however, was there on the 12th of September to capture the beauty of the lanterns being lit. After a long wait and finally after an hour delay on the day of the release the winds were cooperating and everyone that had gathered to see the lanterns were satisfied. After the initial release of lanterns there was over an hour trickle of lanterns still being released allowing for a beautiful sight throughout the evening. Everyone was happy with the overall beautiful outcome of the event and look forward to releasing Flying Lanterns again in the near future!
