Tips for throwing a great party

Whether you are throwing a massive party to celebrate a special occasion or whether it’s a simple dinner party, here are a few tips to follow to ensure your event runs smoothly and you and your guests have a great time.

Tip # 1
Create ambiance

Lighting and music go a long way to creating an inviting atmosphere in which guests can converse and relax. Candlelight works the best and should be your first choice, avoid artificial light unless it has a dimmer and you must use tikki torches or standing lanterns if hosting an outdoor party. You don’t want your guests falling about the place trying to get in and out of the house. Music should be tasteful and turned up loud enough to hear but soft enough that it won’t over power and cause people to continually ask eachother, “sorry, can you repeat that, I didn’t catch a word.”

Tip #2
Provide food
There’s nothing worse than turning up to a party that has no food or next to no food. Don’t try to be fancy, something as simple as cheese and crackers, dips and bread and a BBQ is often the way to go. Ensure you have enough food to last the length of the party and perhaps save some for later on when most of the guests have left as you will probably want a snack yourself.

Tip #3
Provide something entertaining
If you have something that is entertaining at your party, your guests will automatically have a better time as it involves them and gives them something else to do rather than eat and drink. We suggest launching some sky lanterns off – this will create a stir amongst your guests as they probably wouldn’t have seen anything like them before. It’s also an inexpensive way to impress your guests.

Tip #4
Let your guests know when it’s over
We’ve all been there, hosted a fabulous party but at 3am your flat is still filled with people, half of which you don’t even know and all you want to do is crawl up into bed. It can be tricky telling people the party is over, but it has to be done otherwise you will be up until 6am. Doing simple things such as turning off the music or shutting up the bar can help get people out. If all else fails simply tell them there’s a great bar down the road and it would be great if they checked it out!
