Launching lanterns safely

30lanterns1 Here at WishLantern.co.uk we pride ourselves on the fact that we are constantly looking for new ways to improve upon our products and provide our customers with as much information as possible to ensure they use our products correctly. All of our sky lanterns come with detailed safety and launching instructions which we encourage our customers to read prior to launching, however there’s no such thing as being too safe, so here on our blog we’d like to run through the safety aspect one more time!

The first thing to note is that sky lanterns need to be launched in an open space, free of trees and buildings. If the weather is good and there is no wind, you can sometimes get away with launching them in built up areas as the lanterns float directly upwards. If there is any wind at all you will need to move your launch space to an open area though.

You should know that children, under no circumstances, should be allowed to light the lantern. They should have an adult light it for them then they can hold onto the lantern and launch it with adult supervision.

Once you have your lauch space sorted, unwrap your lantern carefully, ensuring you do not tear the delicate paper, then unfold the lantern and have someone hold it up with the other person lights the four corners of the fuel cell. Hold onto the lantern until it fills up with hot air from the flame then gently release it off into the sky.

If it is raining or windy do not attempt to launch the sky lantern, keep it for another day when the weather is calm, it will make such a difference to your sky lantern experience.
