For some reason Australians love a great party, so it’s no wonder they all love Australia Day! Australia Day is a national holiday down under held each year on January 26 to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.
So being British it’s a day we have reason to celebrate as well! Aussies usually have a BBQ lunch with their friends and family as it’s in their summer time, however, with the bleak winter weather spreading it’s love over our nation in January, chances are BBQs are off the table here in the United Kingdom.
Just because you can’t have a BBQ doesn’t mean you can’t help celebrate Australia Day. Throw a party and show your Australian spirit by decorating your party with Australian flags, wearing an Australian flag badge, t-shirt, hat or apron or you could even have a morning tea with lamingtons and Vegemite on toast. You could even purchase some blue, red and white sky lanterns and launch them at your party to impress your guests. Make sure you invite some of your Aussie friends to help them feel at home, that is if you can drag them away from the local Walkabout!
